Photos: Chinese New Year Festival in Auckland 2014

The Chinese New Year Festival in Auckland was a celebration of color. Yesterday I shared a photo of the Prime Minister watching the opening Lion Dance. Here are a few more of my favorite photos from the days events.

Shopping opportunities included gifts and food:

There was a huge queue as people waited for a turn to throw this white ball at a target in order to win. I have no idea what they won as it wasn’t posted on the sign in English. You can see the ball in the upper right corner, but mostly I love the expressions on people’s faces as they watched the ball fly.

The entertainment was excellent, varied, and concluded with a dance from adorable little children. Best of all the entire event, including the performances, was free.

I couldn’t resist this one, after a bow at the end of their performance.  The blue hair is reflecting the lights.

I am really enjoying my new Olympus OM-D E-M5 micro 4/3 camera. The smaller size is so much more convenient, the creative options are all available and the quality output speaks for itself.

Which is your favorite photo from Auckland’s Chinese New Year Festival?

I said a long “Ahhhh” when I saw that last photo, so it’s definitely my favorite. I love all the costumes, though, in the others. Thanks for showing us the festival. It’s the next best thing to being there.

    Be well, Rhonda.
