Bastakiya, finally I found somewhere I like in Dubai.
We had a wonderful guide named Wahleed who took us on a walking tour of traditional Dubai at Bastakiya. The narrow streets clearly show what Dubai was like prior to the oil money. Homes were built close together in this way to give shade and to create wind tunnels.

Even though we didn’t buy much, I really enjoyed the old souqs. Here are a few of our favorite shots:
After we were done, hubby negotiated a price for a 30-minute water taxi tour down the river ending at stop “22”, which was right near our hotel. He confirmed the understanding by pointing to the stop live and on the map. But at the end of our “tour”, the driver went by exit 22 and told us that he is not allowed to stop there, so we needed to take a land taxi after we got off.
Then there is the modern side of Dubai.
