Auckland is an eclectic mix of personalities and people, not much different than other modern cities we have visited around the world. We arrived here nearly 12 years ago, and I still remember the mixed reaction as we told our friends and family we were moving half way around the world to New Zealand.
Some celebrated with us, others wondered if we were headed for disaster. Questions came fast, and it became apparent that this island nation was a mystery to many. Putting to rest one of the most random questions I have been asked to date: “No, I have never worn a grass skirt nor a coconut bra.” (Well, actually I have, but that was to run Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, USA many years ago).
Shattering the myths, I thought I would share random of photos of people in Auckland. Most were taken either during my initial 100 Strangers Project, or my revised and current project: 100 Strangers with interesting hair.
Do you take photos of people? Do the people of Auckland surprise you? Did you think the people of New Zealand wear grass skirts and coconut bras?
