Weekend Travel Inspiration: Backroads

Driving along the backroads of Wanaka on New Zealand’s South Island I stopped to capture the perfect moment. Later, looking at the photo it reminded me of a quote from Chinese author Ma Jian, “Everything I was I carry with me, everything I will be lies waiting on the road ahead.” ~ Ma Jian

WTI Wanaka back-roads in New Zealand.

Whether taking the highway or the backroads, travel changes people.  Last year my niece visited us in New Zealand. Some of our travel highlights together:

I mention it today, as I wish her congratulations and good luck as she starts the next phase of her life journey, with her current road leading her to a new city. I hope I inspire her, just as she inspires me to take the backroads.

Do you take the road well traveled, or the backroads?

Hi Rhonda, thanks for sharing that quote and your linkies. I hope to visit the Rainbow Falls and Cape Reinga someday. So true, that travel changes people. Isn’t traveling amazing? And I appreciate that we travelers inspire each other in every little way – blog posts, stories, photos, etc.

I love the road less traveled.

I’m into the exploring. Sometimes I want to see what the masses want to see but often I want to see what the masses will never see.

    Have a fabulous day. 🙂

I took that shot several years ago, and loved the view that day. As for the quick road, I try to avoid it and I hope one day your life will slow down enough to enjoy the backroads too.

Rhonda, Wow! I love this quote. It speaks volumes to me. I’m constantly thinking how the only material things that really matter to me are my photos, and that’s because they are memories of being on the road. Great #wkendtravelinspiration! Thanks
