Driving along the backroads of Wanaka on New Zealand’s South Island I stopped to capture the perfect moment. Later, looking at the photo it reminded me of a quote from Chinese author Ma Jian, “Everything I was I carry with me, everything I will be lies waiting on the road ahead.” ~ Ma Jian
Whether taking the highway or the backroads, travel changes people. Last year my niece visited us in New Zealand. Some of our travel highlights together:
- Photo: Rainbow Falls in Keri Keri, New Zealand
- Photo: Moko Traditional Maori Face or Body Tattoo – New Zealand
- Taranaki Wharf Jump Platform – Wellington’s Solution to Kid’s Jumping off the Docks
- The Meeting Of The Seas: Cape Reinga, The Top Of The North Island
I mention it today, as I wish her congratulations and good luck as she starts the next phase of her life journey, with her current road leading her to a new city. I hope I inspire her, just as she inspires me to take the backroads.
Do you take the road well traveled, or the backroads?
